I’m heading out next week to crew on a grouper spawning research trip at Riley’s Hump in the Dry Tortugas. I’m not quite sure what I’ll be doing, though – I’ll be divemaster crew (all live boat recoveries on the mighty M/V Spree for this trip), and also be using my new Light & Motion HD Bluefin housing, Fathom 70 wide-angle lens, and Canon XA10 video camera to shoot video for the scientists of grouper spawning, fish traps, and “fish surgery” (tagging, I presume). I am bringing open circuit gear and a 5mil wet suit for crewing work, and my Inspiration rebreather and dry suit for the deep science (220′ is the targeted research depth). I shipped FOUR BOXES of gear to the boat earlier this week – and that doesn’t include my camera gear! Will let you all know how it goes when I return.
